September 2022 Events

Thank you to everyone who came to the August events, i know August is a busy time for everyone’s holidays but it was good to see people able to make it.
September is going to be a busy month, there’s a lot coming up in the first half of the month so this is a long email.
Some positive news about the club before i get into the events, we have now 180 members!  Welcome to the new people, don’t be shy come along to the events.  I noticed there are still quite a few name badges still in the kit room too.

Beginner Course no9 – 3rd, 10th, 17th Sept 2022

I think there are still some additional helpers needed for this one please.  Head over to the website, log in and sign up if you’re able to help out please.

4th September – Outdoor Championships

The round is the WA 1440 (see the table below) so a good day of shooting.  Let’s take the hassle out of lunchtime for you with a buffet.  This worked very well for the Yorkshire Day shoot, the freshly prepared buffet arrived moments after we broke for lunch.  There were several platters of sandwiches, sausages, pie, pakoras and bhajis (and a separate vegetarian platter).
Buffet from Taylors – £6 a head, please let me know by 31st August so i can get it booked in.
Don’t be put off by the distances in this round, if you’re not confident in smashing out the 90m, then you can shoot any Metric round from the table below at a distance you find more comfortable.  Come and join in the fun of the day, the more on the shooting line the better the atmosphere.

7th September – Meal on First Wednesday Evening

This month we will be visiting the Pink Elephant Indian restaurant in Meltham. Anyone wanting to shoot is welcome to join us before the meal. We are generally at the field from about 16:45 till 7 o’clock and the restaurant booked for 19:30.
Please let Alan Hoddinott know by 5th September if you intend joining us so we can reserve a large enough table.

10th September – Last night of the proms

BYO Beverage and snacks, bring a comfy chair, sit back and relax.  Enjoy the classical extravaganza that is BBC’s Last Night of the Proms up at the archery field.
There will be a big screen and big sounds to celebrate.  Union Jack flags and silly British hats are absolutely essential to get into the spirit of things.
Tuning of the tubas and fiddling with the french horns starts at 7:15pm so aim to get to the field for 7pm.

17th September – Crècy Shoot, a unique round with Crècy influences

At Phoenix Sports and Social Club, Bawtry Road, Brinsworth, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, S60 5PA.
This was a great fun day out last time pre-covid, it’s a very very long distance shoot (3doz @ 160 yards, 3doz @ 145 yards and 3doz @ 120 yards), there is an entry fee of £13, no lunch provided this year either so you’ll need a picnic.  This is open to all bow styles, there is a dress code – Medieval or Club colours.  As my chain mail is a little rusty i think i’ll be in club colours myself.
If you let me know then I will collate the entry forms and send them in to Chantry Archers, of you can fill it in and send it off for yourself – see the attached form.

18th September – Outdoor Handicap

The round is the WA 1440, same as Championships round.  Same advice applies to this competition too, don’t worry if 90m is not your thing you can select any of the Metric rounds from the list below and shoot a distance and round you’re more comfortable with.
We’re taking a chance on the weather being fine and we will fire up the BBQ after the first six dozen arrows.
Last BBQ of the year – £5 a head, please let me know by 14th September so we can get in the right provisions (including vegetarian option) please.
